Rainbow flowers!

We did another experiment to show how plants suck up water.  We started with white flowers and see what happened . . .

They sucked up the colour of the dye in their container! 😀 Did you notice the little flower on our beanstalk in background? I wonder when we will get beans?

Shadows

We watched Mason's shadow today. Look how it changed.

It became shorter and moved to the side. It disappeared yesterday when there were lots of clouds!!

Growing experiment

We are going to do an experiment to see what plants need to grow healthy and strong. Here are 3 pots of beans.

We will put 1 in a box so that it gets no light but we will still water it, we will leave 1 in the light but not water it and we will give the third one light, water and LOVE! Let's see what happens in a week.

Beans talks

Look how our beans have grown . . .

Hair cuts

We gave our egg heads a haircut and had a cress sandwich. It tasted yummy! Look at them now. . .

Cress egg heads

We planted TINY cress seeds in half an egg shell which had a face drawn on it. The cress "hair" is so long now. We will cut it off and eat it on a little slice of bread. Will it be yummy?

Carrot tops

We cut off the tops of the carrots that we picked from the school veggie garden and look what is happening . . .

The leaves are growing!

Little Gardens

We are loving collecting and growing the Little Gardens from New World.

Look how many we have already!

Growing seeds

Look how well our seeds have grown. Some sunflower seeds have grown really fast and their stems are long and skinny. We will take them home today to grow taller than us in our own garden!

It looks like one little seed doesn't want to come out of the cosy, dark, damp soil!

Our beans are growing well too. Some of them have grown as big as Jack's beanstalk! Some of them are growing taking their time to grow up.

Counting to 100

Before school some of us were showing how well we can count to 100!

Someone else loves reading our fairy tale books. 😃

Beans in bags

We put 2 beans inside a plastic bag against some paper towel, watered them and stuck them on the window so that they could get heaps of light and we could watch how they grow.

A little root started growing first. What will happen next?

Planting sunflower seeds

At the beginning of this last term we planted sunflower seeds.

We enjoyed putting on the gloves

and we hope our seeds grow well. We said, "Grow little seeds, grow!"

Reading rotations

When we have finished our Jolly Phonics activity, we carry on with another activity from our reading rotation. Some of us read from the book boxes...

some of us make puzzles

or pictures out of shapes.

We are so good at doing this all by ourselves while other groups are reading with Mrs Davies!

Army rat

Mason and Leah were fascinated by the little rat jaw I brought to school. The began to investigate all the bones on the nature table and made many discoveries. They eventually made an army rat!!

India

Shreya's mum came to share some special things about India. She showed us pictures of beautiful buildings and pretty saris which the ladies wear. She showed us how to make a rangoli pattern which is put at the front door during Diwali.

We each got to do a little bit. When it was finished, it looked amazing!

We also got to taste a samosa. It was so yummy!!!
Thank you for being lucky last with our cultural sharing. Wow!! We have learnt sooooo much about other cultures.

Mini olympics

We had heaps of fun at our Mini Olympics! The tug of war was the best by far!
Tonga was the team that won!  CONGRATULATIONS Tonga!! We all got a medal too 😃

We all thought the melk tert was delicious but we were not so sure about the dried meat or biltong.
Sabrina's mum brought us pancakes and corn dumplings. Yum!! Lucas's nana brought some dumplings that his mum had made and they had just been steamed.
We are being brave and trying so many new tastes. Rainy did a special dance from China. Thank you Rainy:-)

Palestine

Abubakr's mum was so kind to start working late today so that she could show us her beautiful hand embroidered thobe.

She also baked us the most delicious zatar which is a traditional breakfast in Palestine filled with sesame seeds and olives.

Here is Abubakr in his thobe and shamagg.

He and his friend Chelsy are so proud of where their parent's come from but they love living in New Zealnd.

China

Chelsey's mummy taught us sooooo much about China today. This is the double happiness symbol which is red for luck.

This silk scarf shows the beautiful blue and white porcelain made in China.

This is Chelsey's little qipoa which is a traditional Chinese dress.

These are little tiger head shoes that are given to babies for good health, strength and luck.

China is also famous for pandas so Omega baked us panda cookies. Thanks so much!!

This outfit that she is wearing has a Mandarin collar and a braided ring fastening called a frog!!!

His mum shared a book about a spider which she read in Farsi. She started reading from the back of the book!

Muhammad's mum came to tell us about Egypt. She helped us make a lantern and baked us yummy basbousa (an Egytian dessert) to taste. Many of us had 2 helpings!
